Sunday Morning Tidbits for November 2, 2025- Richelle Melvin Scripture: Col. 3:15,17 Topic: “The Essence of Thanksgiving”
Paul wrote to the Colossians about false teachings and some other things that were going on in the church. He told them not to mix religion with anything else.
Some of us as Christians tend to focus on the wrong things. Jesus died on the cross and cleansed us from all unrighteousness!
We should give thanks because you have everything you need because God has provided it!
Thank God for being your strength and redeemer!
The true meaning of thanksgiving is to show Gratitude- acknowledgment of giving. A simple thank you. Thank God for all that He has done for you.
Thanksgiving goes back to the pilgrims and the harvest fest.
It starts with the gathering of family and friends finding time together to reflect on where God has brought you from.
Then we must learn to give. Give back to the community. Give to someone less fortunate than you.
Psalms 95:2-3 tells us to come before his presence with thanksgiving…..
Col. 15:17 tells us to Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.
Thanksgiving should be a lifestyle on a daily basis.
Todah is confession, praise or an offering.
Offer God praises, acknowledge that He is the giver of good things.
Thank God for the gift of salvation and for him loving us even as we are so unworthy of his love; thank Him for the resurrection of Jesus Christ and that He paid the price for our sins.
There are always more reasons to thank God.
We should thank God every time we walk, and talk.
Psalms 100:4;Psalms 107:1; I Thes. 5:18; I Chronicles 16:34
Give thanks unto the Lord; God’s mercies endures forever.
Phil. 4:6 tells us to make your request known to God!
You have to do what God tells you to do.
Thanksgiving is a way of life.
I Thes. 5:18 tells us to give thanks in everything.
Are you thankful to Hod in every thing including your talents, food on the table, a roof of your head, your job and etc?
Don’t take it lightly that you were able to get up this morning; that you had food to eat and that you were blessed to have all of your limbs.
Find encouragement through your praise and worship.
When you praise God, you release Satan’s power to overcome you.
Acts 16:16 - praise and thanksgiving opened the prison doors.
II Chronicles-praise and thanksgiving delivered God’s people from the enemy.
Psalms 22- praise and thanksgiving brought God onto the scene.
Thanksgiving is more than just a day. It is a lifestyle.
The essence of Thanksgiving!
