Scripture: Micah 6:8 Topic: “Adjusting My Focus!”
Micah 6:8 tells us to do justly;love mercy and to walk humbly with God.
To walk humbly means to listen to the Spirit of God and obey.
This is what God requires if you.
Most people do not do what God want them to do.
Ego refers to a sense of exaggerated self importance. It’s all about me! It’s a need to win or do right, vanity, excessive self praise, judging; people pleasing, and the inability to make mistakes.
The root of egotism is self and is often driven by pride.
The ego inflates and we decide I’m more important than anyone else due to abuse, betrayal or abandonment.
You get the attitude of I must look out for myself because no one else is going to look out for me.
All forms of modern idolatry have self in it.
Modern idolatry-materialism always wanting to acquire more stuff, houses, cars, etc.
Pride and ego-you’re obsessed with your career or your job and you are constantly trying to climb higher to get to the next level. You may tithe but you’re not doing it for God but for self gratification.
Naturalism and the power of science-build self-esteem to a Godlike proportion.
Self Gratification -fulfillment of the self to the exclusion of others, their needs and their desires. I am more than anyone else.
I John 2:16
Reflect on God and he will give you peace.
The opposite of ego is humility.
I Peter 5:5-11 Humble yourselves! Don’t stress about going through. You are not the only one going through.
It is time to “adjust your focus!”
Verse 10 tells us if you can just stand in the midst of whatever you going through. I will make you perfect stablish, strengthen and settle you.
You’re too busy trying to fight the battle on your own. The problem is we’re trying to fight battles that are not ours to fight in the first place. It’s time out for us to worry about what we want. That “I” and “me” can get you in trouble.
Your actions should be dictated by the word of God!
Proverbs 16:18-Pride goes before destruction and a Holy Spirit before the fall. Haughty is the same as arrogance.
Phil. 2:3- let nothing be done in strife and vain glory.
How many of you can sit back and focus on God and allow him to take control?
Can you say it doesn’t matter if I was right or wrong and say I’m sorry?
All you have to do is Trust God!!
Proverbs 8:13
God hates pride! Pride turned Lucifer to Satan. Pride turned Adam and Eve to be disobedient and be expelled from the garden.
What has pride and arrogance bought to your life?
An humble heart has no room for ego or pride because it recognizes all you have comes from God. Every gift, talent and breathe you take is from God.
John 3:30
He must increase that I might decrease. John said I was the pave the way. The time has come that I must decrease because there is one greater than me who is to come after me.
Embrace Christ’s way of living through peace and humility.
How you cultivate humility?
Matthew 16:24- deny self and pick up your cross and follow Christ.
Proverbs 3:5-6- Trusting God that he will give it to me the way he wants to give it to me.
Proverbs 22:4- Be humble and fear the Lord! Be afraid not to have Christ in your life as a part of your thoughts, your walk, and your daily life! If you don’t have Him in your life you will not make it!
Galatians 2:20- Christ lives in You! For God I live! He is my all in all! Stand firm on God’s word!
How do you live this life as a Godly person in a Godless world?
Romans 12:1-2
By God’s Mercies! It is His greatness that I am here; it is because of Him He is my all in all!
Present your bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God.
Live and think for him. Everything about you should be like Christ! If it’s against the word of God, you do not need it in your life!
Holy and acceptable. It’s not about just your behavior, but why are you doing it?
Are you doing it for Christ or are you doing it for yourself?
The reason you move has to change. Your purpose has to change! If you truly want to see blessings in your life, you should be able to sacrifice!
Your actions, emotions, and motives must line up with the word of God! That should be to praise God!
Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. You were born into sin conformity is a natural response.
Allow your minds to be transformed (across and beyond to something new) to be changed from the old man that you used to be.
You must be born again, which gives you the power to live a holy life through God‘s grace.
You cannot do it alone by yourself. You have to have God’s grace!
Surround yourself with God. Find life in Christ and make God the center of your life.
He didn’t call you to just do nothing.
Adjust your focus!
